I’m contracted now to do an illustration a month for Lodging magazine, and February’s article deals with the trend, especially among millennial-age travelers, of wanting to make every visit to a hotel and its restaurant an ‘experience’ – that is, they want to know the backstory of the chef’s decisions, the wine steward’s stock, the area’s local culture.
I drew two pencil sketches, the first with several restaurant staffers pulling up chairs to discuss their choices with the couple dining.
and the second with the staff putting on a show for the guests.
The editors chose the first sketch, so I redrew it and made a color sketch with markers & colored pencils.
I drew the finish on watercolor paper and painted it with acrylic paints used like watercolor.
