Finished Toucan Drum Major art

toucandrummajorfinishwpHere is the final art for the sketches in previous posts – scroll down to see rough and color sketches of this piece. I painted this finish with acrylic paints on illustration board – some tiny details are done with prismacolor pencils. The blue sheen on his tail feathers, for instance, is done with electric blue prisma right over the black acrylic.

He’s the first in a series of animals on parade that I’m developing. I have an affinity for the beautiful glow and curves of brass instruments, and the warmth of wood and complexity of the keys on woodwinds – so this should produce an interesting series!

If you are interested in following the progress of this series, you may want to ‘follow’ this blog so you get updates on newly posted sketches and finished art. I also welcome comments (‘leave a reply’) and suggestions for which animals & instruments to feature.
