I finished this commissioned drawing in pencil as requested by my client, and she’s pleased with the completed work. In the scene from Wagner’s Ring Cycle, Wotan angrily punishes his daughter, Brünnhilde, by removing her from Valkyrie status, leaving her a mortal woman. My client’s son is an big opera fan and provided me with photos of him on which to model Wotan. The eyepatch and spear are characteristic of the Wotan role; usually the part is sung by an older man with full teutonic beard and helmet, but for the sake of resemblance we left his face uncovered.
